We teed it up in the Pete Dye Member/Guest at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, WV this past weekend. I’ll save you the suspense — we finished squarely in the middle of our flight. No trophy. No low-gross glory. But ask me if I’d do it again in a heartbeat? Absolutely.
The course itself has one of the coolest origin stories in golf. Carved directly out of an old West Virginia strip mine, Pete Dye masterfully balanced the rugged grandeur of the Appalachian Mountains with the raw character of the land. There’s nothing quite like riding your cart through the remnants of an old coal mine between holes — it’s a reminder that this place existed long before the flagsticks went in.
The conditions were immaculate all weekend. Fairways fast and firm, greens rolling pure. The kind of setup that makes you feel like a better golfer than you actually are… until you’re not. 😅

But honestly, what I’ll remember most isn’t any number on a scorecard. It’s the battles during the matches — the trash talk, the clutch moments, the opponents who felt like old friends by the back nine. And every evening, sitting around the firepit, swapping stories and laughing over a few too many libations.
Years from now, nobody’s recalling the final standings. They’re telling someone about the 45-footer they drained for birdie, or the hole-out from 133 yards that ended the match on the spot. That’s golf. That’s the whole thing.
